CHES Diesel & Marine Services was appointed an authorised Off-Highway Service Dealer for MTU Marine Propulsion and Onboard Generation engines in 1980.  Since then we have carried out numerous Engine Servicing, Planned Maintenance, Engine Rebuilds, Commissioning and Repairs.  Our experienced MTU Technicians can carry out work to your requirement either onsite or in our workshop.

Our workshop is fully equipped and can carry out all the required machining and overhaul to sub assys such as Cyl Heads, Con Rods, Crankshaft, Fuel Injection, Coolers, Pumps, etc.  We can also overhaul or service the gearbox or water jet.

MY "Lazy Z" Engine Overhaul

Two MTU 12V396TE74L main engines plus two gen sets were removed from MY “Lazy Z”, overhauled, dyno tested and refitted in 10 weeks.

MTU 12V396TE74L main engine mounted on a stand ready to be overhauled.  Several photographs, of the engine, are taken and attached to the job card prior to the strip down.

 

New crankshaft core plugs being rolled.  Plugs were removed to facilitate cleaning.  Crankshaft has already been cleaned, gauged, crack tested & polished.

Cyl Head being prepared for re-assy.  

Head was stripped, cleaned, pressure & crack tested.  Valve inserts were replaced and v/guides renewed and finish honed to size.  Head was re-faced to a strict finish and head depth gauged and matched.  Inj tube was removed & refitted with new seal and valves replaced.  Valve springs were gauged.

 

Stbd engine being refitted through ship’s side.  Patch was welded back in place and welds X-Rayed after completion of all works.
